Catering in Rough and Ready.
Distance rarely decides a Paisan's booking. Rough and Ready is about 122 minutes out, over the summit on I-80, or around on US-50, and the crew treats it like a hometown job once the chafers are lit.
The town that once declared itself its own republic back in 1850; the name still does the storytelling at every reception toast.
The foothill belt west of the summit hosts some of the region's best-loved wedding venues, and outside catering is the norm there. A Reno kitchen with three decades of road miles fits right in.
Everything on the printed menus is fair game for the drive: hot entrée buffets starting at $17.99 per person, whole-house sandwich trays, numbered box lunches, appetizer spreads built by the piece, and carved tri-tip that shows up still resting. Add the Mobile Pub's taps or the food truck when the party calls for it.
A word about snow: December-through-April dates in Rough and Ready are absolutely doable; they just get built with weather margin. Chains ride in the truck, buffets are timed to hold, and Mike watches the pass report like a hawk.
